oh donny miller!

Well this evening the husband and I ventured out to Cedarville University....you know typical christian college, lots of white kids wearing khakis and Doc Martens. The reason...An evening with Donald Miller. If you have not heard him speak and get a chance I would highly recomend it. He read a chapter of his new book which sounds hilarious. He also talked about his foundation which helps single moms and kids growing up without dads. He gave the stat that 85% of men in jail came from homes that there was no father and they really want to try to change that "and if that gets to hard we'll just introduce the kids that do have dads to drugs, cause we just want to change that stat" Some of the highlights for me we're watching the 70 year old couple(that I'm sure had know idea who Donald Miller was and probably are alum that come to all events at the college) who scowled everytime Donald said a word like lesbian, pothead, sex, pour some sugar on me.....in the ministry center. Although I did see the wife laugh a few times and believe me she will here about it later! I also highly enjoyed the scruffy faced college guy who sat by Billy.....he was barefoot(I'm sure there we're a pair of moccasins somwhere under the pew) Who laughed crazy loud and actually curled in the fetal position and fell forward laughing while screaming out yes in approval. There was a book signing after and I so badly wanted to wait in line and slip him cousin Danara's phone number but as always Billy Bed-time was hankering for his pillow......so it will have to be fate that brings Donald and Danara togethor....it will have to be fate.

Phew!

My interviews are finally over! I did 7 interviews in 8 days and traveled over 700 miles this week. I am now a competent driver of the mini cooper and can operate a manual transmission without stalling at every stoplight. The interviews themselves went quite well (at least in my opinion). The schools themselves are all so different and as I think about my top choices, it is a tough balance between the role that I would play in the school, the location of the school in relation to where doug and I want to move, and of course, money. The districts don't make official offers until the beginning of April, so I'll have to wait a bit to hear back from them. It feels good, though. to have this step out of the way and to know that I am one step closer to actually living here and doug and I are one step closer to actually having a home together in the same time zone.

We're heading to California this week to celebrate a) The pacific ocean and some of doug's favorite places on earth, b)spring break, one of the few perks of still being a student, c) the fact that I don't have to wear that stodgy suit or talk about how great I am anymore, and d) the fact that united airlines, in its Christmastime overbooking, gave us each two free tickets to anywhere in the US for bumping us off our flight. Cheers!

Liz--I was wondering when your MA commencement ceremony is? Mine is Friday, May 5th, at 7:00 p.m, if anyone wants to come (don't feel like you have to though--I'm sure it will be terribly boring). Nara--you are not graduating this semester, right?

So I was approved for funding to study in Egypt this summer. That means I get to spy on Nara's lover!
I'm excited, but the tragic part is that I'll have to miss your wedding Liz and Doug! I'm so sad about this. Think you could hook up a webcam?
:-) If not, please promise you will video tape every second! (oh-and don't have Andrew do the taping unless you just want to see the back of Doug's head the whole ceremony...have you seen our "wonderful" wedding tape?)
